take photos together!" I love it...and I love that Elizabeth's mom got in on this photo shoot! What great memories to keep! You can read the full post at: http://wagonramblins.blogspot.com/2012/04/boots-n-ball-gowns.html
And if you didn't notice all these photos these lovely ladies are wearing their boots...so naturally as us gals do...there is a cowboy boot picture! I love ladies who "Go Out With There Boots On"! Also make sure you go check out Elizabeth's blog Circle The Wagons it is great country fun! Love it!

The Rustic Chick Makes Her Mark...In a Bathroom Stall

Yes I made my mark Saturday night at my cousin Kristine's bachelorette party...and yes it was in a bathroom stall that was painted in chalkboard paint! These are the kinds of things that happen at bachelorette parties...you sign chalkboard walls while using the restroom. Then you take pictures to show people...I'm not proud but I wanted proof.
Lots of other weird things happen...it may have nothing to do with bachelorette parties but may have more to do with the weirdness that me and my sister share. And that she is an instigator of the weirdness naturally because she is older than me. I had to pick it up from somebody right..these weirdness don't just appear?!
This is my cousin Kristine...she is the bachelorette. I bought a tiny pink glitter cowboy hat to wear to her party...it said "Party Posse." Cause county is how I roll. Kristine is fun fun fun! Yes we did wake up in the hotel room the next morning and she was gone. We were worried. My first comment was,"Well there isn't a tiger in the bathroom!" So that has to be good news. It was a replay of the movie "The Hangover" from there on out. All the mattresses are here...check. No one is missing a tooth are they...check. Do you see anything on the roof...check. Does anyone have a hospital bracelet on...check. etc. etc. etc. We decided that had "The Hangover" movie never been made our morning after the bachelorette party would have been way less hilarious. Oh and we did find her she just left to go home before we all got up. Phew!
This picture was taken on our little shuttle van at pry like 3:30 in the morning. This is also how pictures turn out when it is late, your tired because you realize your getting to old for this stuff, and the flash is so bright that you can barely keep your eyes open long enough for the photo to take! Also just a side note...the beads I am wearing were not part of my accessories for the night nor did I do any flashing to get them...we sold them to make money for the bachelorette.
So this was my Saturday night...making my mark on this town with my friends and family...even if part of it was in a bathroom stall (here is the real proof...you can see the toilet paper dispenser.) We had fun...it will go down as a great night!

Going Out With Your Boots On: Farmgirl Chaos

It's Friday folks...which means it is a "Going Out With Your Boots On" kind of day! I would like you to meet Nicole who blogs over at Farmgirl Chaos she is a fellow Iowan which makes us like her even more! I was really excited to post her pictures of her "Going Out With Her Boots On" because from her pictures it looks like they have taken her further than just some Iowa dirt. She told me this top picture was taken of her Cowgirl Boots on Heidelberg Streets in Germany. How cool is that?! She is packing for a trip to Germany and doesn't leave her Cowgirl boots out! This is my kind of gal!
This next picture is Nicole at her friends wedding in Iowa. I love that she is dressed up with her boots! I am going to a wedding in a couple weeks and am definitely going to be wearing my cowgirl boots! So fun!
Last but not least this picture of her boots in the snow was taken in at Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. I love that her boots have been taken across the country! I believe that Cowgirl boots should always be in the car on road trips! Nicole's boots were definitely made for walking whether in Iowa or Germany. Make sure you go check out her blog at Farmgirl Chaos and follow her life as a farm girl. I thank her for being kind enough to let me use some of her pictures of her "Going Out With Her Boots On!"

Also pass the word about "Going Out With Your Boots On" Fridays! I need some more pictures of you folks out with your boots on! Email me at therusticchick@gmail.com your pictures and give a little explanation of "You Going Out With Your Boots On"!!!

Sisterly Love Means Spur of The Moment Road Trips

Yesterday during work my sister (who works at the same place as me) were talking and she showed me a picture of a dog she found. It was so cute! They have been looking for a dog for awhile now since her and her boyfriend are moving into a house together. The only problem with this dog they found was that it was a like 2.5 hours away. The people were like if you can get here tonight she is yours...so of course she says,"Will you go with me?" "It will be fun...a little road trip!" And of course I said YES! So the minute we got off work we hit the road all to pick up a dog. On the way we talked about how we hoped the dog actually looked like the picture and wasn't like missing a leg, or eye, or in real life had to wear one of those big cones...cause that might be kind of long trip for something like that...lol. We were mostly joking cause that is what we do basically joke about ridiculous stuff. It was a fun trip...this is the kind of stuff that is in the "Sister's Handbook." If they need you to ride with them 2.5 hours to pick up a dog...you just do it! By the way the dog is cute...her name is Lilly...and she had all her eyes, limbs, and no big cone thingy. She is in the picture above with my sister...she is going to love her new family and her new crazy aunt (me)!
On our little road trip across Iowa to pick up a dog we did see farmers working in their fields, lots of old barns and baby calfs...I asked my sister if I could bring one of those home. She said no (she is no fun!) We also saw a beautiful Iowa sunset...being out in the open fields and country makes me never want to have to step foot in the city again. I enjoyed every second of it...I love it out yonder!

Country Life: Beautiful Views

This past Saturday I spent most of the day mowing. It was a beautiful day to be outside and of course I enjoyed every minute of it because most the week I am couped up in an office (which usually makes me not a very happy camper.) The sky was blue and there were beautiful clouds...that did create a few sprinkles but it cleared off. My grandma told me that my grandpa came in the house and said,"Well she really goes at it when she mows!" Which kind of made me laugh. I secretly kind of like mowing...but don't tell to many people because I don't want people to think I like it so much that I want to mow for them. Anyway it was a good weekend. I worked...then I went to play for a little bit Saturday night...dancin' and hanging out.
Also while I was out I had to take a picture or two...cause that's what I do! This one is just of an old wagon on the farm with some blue sky. It was pretty...I can never get enough of the country! Now if only I could be on the farm right now instead of this office...

Saturday Night Dancin' and Fashion

I planned on going out Saturday night and was looking through clothes/jewelry I could wear. I wanted something different jewelry wise but didn't have time to run shopping before I went because I was mowing and doing some other work around the farm. So I got to looking around at some stuff I had laying around. Which ended up being a leather belt that I was saving to do something crafty with. I realized that the actual belt buckle on the belt turned out to be cuter than I remembered so I got to work and made me a new rockin' bracelet. You can see it in the picture above.
This picture here is everything together! Some fun earrings and of course I broke out my Corral Boots which are one of my favorite pairs! Then it was off to hang out...we had a good time and even got to do a little dancin' which I love...even thought I don't think I am that good. Who cares though?! Hope all you folks had a great weekend!

A_GypsyCowgirl is the first gal to send me a pic of the boots she goes out in!!! She said,"These are her favorite boots...they are leather soled Justin's! They have taken her out dancing quite a bit...she only goes out with her boots on!!!" A_GypsyCowgirl is also know as Jessica. She is such a sweet gal and I have a feeling that we would get along great. We have so many of the same stuff in common and of course one of those things is cowboy boots!

Eric Church-Over When It's Over

While walking today on my lunch...for exercise you know...(yeah I am still working on mastering fitness.) It is so hard! But besides that point this song came on and for whatever reason I don't think I had heard it before. Well of course I loved it...one of the sole reasons being the sound when the gal sings with him. Such a great duet! It was also a pretty good working out song! I pretty much dig it!

Blessed With Life-Long Friendship

People always told me that when I went to college I would meet life long friends. It has been about 10 years since I stepped foot on campus for the first time...I know that's dating me a little bit folks(yikes!) But a lot has happened since then. I only stayed at college a couple years before deciding to move back home which is Iowa. It was a hard decision to make because I didn't want to lose those friendships. God has blessed me with one friendship that has continued since I moved home. I'm not saying it has always been easy but I still call her one of my best friends. We don't talk everyday but I know that if I need something she is always there. She has proved this over time with her kind thoughtful words and text messages saying she is thinking/praying for me! I just think she is an amazing woman and am really proud to call her my friend. She is a keeper!
A few weeks back I received a little package from her in the mail...it held a little cowboy boot figurine (she knows me to well) it also had a little note rolled up and stuck in the boot! It was a sweet little note that made my day! Now the cowboy boot is sitting with three others that are similar and it still has the note in it...just so when I see it that it will remind me of my sweet friend! Friendship is definitely a blessing from God especially when it exist across the miles from Iowa to Kansas.

Sweet Home Alabama: Do It Like Bubba -Dustin Tavella

Well if you haven't heard gals from all over this country talking about a man named Bubba then you must live under a rock somewhere. This one single man is making girls weak in the knees and fainting all over the country after being a hit on CMT's Sweet Home Alabama show last season. You might as well of thought Elvis came to town! I follow Bubba on twitter and love to see all the gals all in love with him...and I might add drooling a little bit! I will tell you that I didn't actually watch the season while it was airing because of course I do not have cable (I know who knew that people actually didn't have cable these days!) But I did end up at my mama's one night bored and decided to watch it online. At first when I saw Bubba my reaction was actually toward his hat that read Faith Cattle Company...I thought I wonder what made him pick Faith. Then the next reaction was that he was good lookin'...and he must be some cocky cowboy who knows he is good lookin'. Then as the show would go on his quiet well thought manner showed through...my thoughts then were he is good...now will this gentleman demeanor stand up throughout the whole show. Like maybe he is just some sweet talkin' cowboy! But as I continued to watch online (because of the not having cable issue) I think he proved every cocky good lookin' cowboy wrong. His quiet well thought manner was consistent throughout the show. I thought well his mama and daddy did something right that is for sure! It made me happy to see a man walking it just like he talked it...and it was a bonus that he was good lookin' of course. But the quiet well thought manner and gentleman behaviors is what won over the ladies hearts all over America and the reason I say its like Elvis came to town (we've got screaming gals and fainting ladies just at the sight of him...ok maybe that's a slight over exaggeration lol.) We need more men to step up to being gentlemen. As I watched him on the show I thought I want one of him for myself...then I thought I want to clone him so all my single girlfriends can have a Bubba also! Lol...now because he had to be so dag gum wonderful I have to fight with thousands and thousands of girls...just kidding...now back to reality. I just thought he handled himself so well and even won the hearts of the skeptics. I would love to see more cowboys like him out there on the trail. Also from being such a dag gum good cowboy/gentleman Bubba got a book deal...the book will be called:"The Cowboy Code: How to Treat a Lady" how perfect is that! I actually can't wait to read it...I think it will be very interesting to see what he has to say being a single gal myself. Also for your enjoyment today I have included the Do It Like Bubba video that a fellow cast member on the show recorded...his name is Dustin Tavella (he's hilarious by the way.) It is fun and comical...I love it and if you watched the show you will to! And thank you to Bubba who showed the country what it means to be a real Cowboy!

Guest Post: Rural Women Rock

I ran across a blog for Rural Women Rock and I love everything about it...especially the community of women living the rural life coming together to share their stories and their lives. I am honored to be guest posting over there today so go on over and check it out!

My dirt road leads to a little old place called Honey Creek,Iowa. My grandma told me a story of a lady that would get confused and call itSweet Water instead of Honey Creek. Either way it rolls of the tongue nicely. My current home is what we call “The Farm.” I grew up around the farm but a fewyears ago I actually got the chance to live out yonder. I moved during a toughtime in my life when my parents were getting divorced but I was comforted by a piece of land that was always home awayfrom home. Growing up I think I took for granted that there was this piece ofland that drew us together. This piece of land is more than where crops havebeen grown or animals have grazed…if the dirt could talk it would tell manystories of times gone by. I don't think when my grandparents purchased the land to farm they would ever have imagined the affect the farm has had on all of us down through the years. This land has been about farming and living off the land but mostly about faith in my opinion. It is the same place that has provided for our families, and during times when needed it has become a home. I currently live here, my aunt, uncle and their kids lived here before me. Then to go back awhile my cousin Matt also called it his home. He says: "It meant an opportunity for me to give back to them what they had given to me. It gave me a chance to be "country free" on a farm where I grew up and grew roots." I love that and agree it gave us roots. We all have our reasons for loving the farm! This place that we gather at is "The Farm"...every holiday is spent here and every meal is blessed with prayer while we gather in a big circle holding hands. Like I said it is more about faith. During my rough time of my parents divorce I would realize this more and more...it wasn't that my grandparents would discuss with me about it but it was the prayers before meals where my grandpa or grandma would pray for members of our family. It was then that I realized this is something that has been happening for years...them praying for our families over breakfast, lunch, and dinner asking God to provide for us and watch over us. With that faith it has made this piece of land a place that has drawn us together. From my grandparents I have learned many things but most importantly I have learned about faith in God and my love for rural life that just grows daily.

I know this will be hard for you folks to believe but I am kind of a shy gal in real life. I was mowing over the weekend and realized that if I never had to leave this piece of land I wouldn't (except of course I have to come into the big city for work everyday) but it suits me out there away from everything. I am the kind of person that would get lost in the hustle and bustle. So small town life is definitely my cup of cowgirl coffee! The farm lets me see sunrises just like the one above! It feeds a part of my soul...that only God can do with a painted sunrise! Faith that God provides us another day...another new beginning.
I am also learning things about the hard work and what it really takes to be someone that lives rural life full time. It isn't just about an idea of "being country" but actually the hours spent to be a part of something bigger. I have learned things like how to make apple butter from the apples off of the fruit trees. How the stuff that is grown is canned, frozen, or used to last throughout the year...so we can have things like jellies and sweet corn year round. It isn't about the convenience of running to the store to pick up something. And this year I have been put in charge of the mowing...my grandparents are getting older and this year more than past years I realize they just can't do as much. There are already plans to help plant flowers and the garden. I enjoy everything about it! The farm gives a person responsibility and teaches you things to sustain you not only from the trees/seeds that bear fruit but from the faith in God that also bears fruit. With the way society is I long for the old days and it makes me appreciate the simpler life that I hope to lead someday. I am content out here and feel more myself than any place in this world.
The farm is always buzzing with humming birds or deer passing through. It is always a learning experience...which I love. When my grandparents tell me stories I am like a sponge soaking in every word. Whether it has to do about their faith in God or the farm life. She just told me last week that when they first moved out there she went in to buy some chickens...the guy told her well you will pry want about a 100. So she ordered a 100...she looked at me when telling me the story and said,"Do you know how many chickens that really is???" My grandma wasn't afraid to try things and get in there to work alongside my grandpa. I want to be that kind of woman because rural life really is about teamwork and trying your hand at new things. I have learned a lot from my grandma about the kind of woman I want to be...and that is pretty much just like her! I am not claiming to know everything about rural life...I am a work in progress. But I love it and wouldn't have traded the past couple years for anything. God knew exactly what he was doing when I made the move to the farm. He knew my grandparents would need the help and He also fulfilled something in me...gave me a place to learn and fall in love with His beauties and wonders. He placed me in a place where I wouldn't get lost in the hustle and bustle. Somewhere with a slower pace and a place to fit. My cousin Matt says: "It has always been and continues to be a dream of his to live on the farm again someday, if he can ever make it back to Iowa" Rural life is sometimes just in people's veins. God has blessed this piece of land and the people that have been around it. Thank you for letting me share a little of my story and I hope to learn from you other women here at Rural Women Rock who are more experienced at life out yonder.

My Favorite Find: Seek It. Find It. Share It.

In case you all weren't aware from differen't things I have posted but I LOVE JUNK! I really do and I just can't help myself when I see some. I love to look for antiques or old things I can make new again. I don't know if it is the excitement of the hunt that gets me or what but I just love old things. So naturally I am falling in love with a new website that was created by Serena Thompson of The Farm Chicks. The new website is called My Favorite Find and it is amazing!

The website is great...it is a place where you can put pictures up of awesome finds you picked up out on the "junkers trail!" It also shows you events close to your area such as flea markets or antique shows! I am in junk heaven with this website! If you like that kind of stuff make sure to go sign up. I am still trying to figure it all but so far have loved what I see. Also make sure you find me on there if you sign up. Of course I will be under The Rustic Chick . Happy hunting and remember you can never have enough Junk In The Trunk!

Blackberry Pie Bars

Blackberry Pie Bars
(I got this recipe from Pink-Parsley)
Crust and Topping
3 C. All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 C. Sugar
1/4 Tsp. Salt
1 1/2 C (3 sticks) Unsalted Butter, Chilled
Fruit Filling
4 Large Eggs
2 C. Sour Cream
3/4 C. Flour
Pinch of Salt
Zest of 1/2 Lemon
1 Tsp. Almond Extract
2 (16oz.) Packages Frozen Blackberries, Thawed and Drained
To make the crust and topping, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times to mix. Cut the butter into 1/2-inch cubes, and add to the flour mixture. Process until the butter is evenly distributed but the mixture is still crumbly, 30-60 seconds.

Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture to use as the topping. Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of the pan, and bake 12-15 minutes. Cool for at least 10 minutes.

To make the filling, whisk the eggs in a large bowl, then add the sugar, sour cream, flour, salt, lemon zest, and almond extract. Gently fold in the berries and spoon the mixture over the crust. Sprinkle the remaining flour mixture evenly over the filling, and bake 45 to 55 minutes.

Cool at least 1 hour before cutting into bars, or scoop out of the pan to serve cobbler-style
I made these over the weekend and they were amazing! I loved them and so did everyone that tried them especially my brother who asked me to leave like half the pan for him to eat! I would definitely recommend trying them! So tasty!

Cowgirl Gospel: Providing and Little Blessings

I believe in little blessings. The tiny things that you may think aren't part of God's plan but actually may be a blessing from him. We grew up on hand me downs and trips to the Goodwill. My mom is an expert at Goodwilling...she has passed this down to us girls. We love the hunt and finding things at cheap prices! A lot of the home decorating stuff I own I have found at the Goodwill...I re-paint stuff or make it my own. Needless to say I love the place and things have been provided when needed by our thrifty-ness. With that let me tell you a little something that happened to me a week or so ago. I have wanted a red coffee maker for quite awhile now because a lot of what we call my kitchen accessories are red. I like color it adds a little something. I found a red coffee maker that I really wanted but of course it was like 90 bucks. That's a little pricey for me so of course I didn't buy it...I just look at it every time I am in that store and dream of the red coffee maker. So lets fast forward a few months...so a couple weeks ago I ran to the Goodwill with my mom which is a usual occurrence. We are looking and seeing what bargains we can find. We get up by the check out and there sitting just like it was sent from God was a red coffee maker. I looked at it then walked over to my mom...she said,"Did you see that red coffee maker?" (Because of course she knows I want one) Needless to say I bought it for 5 dollars! I got my new red coffee maker home and it sat on the counter for a few days before I tried it out. I got to looking at it one day as I cleaned it up and of course I got to thinking about how God blesses us...not just with big things but even small things like red coffee makers. I feel like God is going to provide for us...he's going to say Hannah here is the main things that are important like food, water, a place to live, money to pay bills, and just for a bonus I am going to throw in a red coffee maker because I know you loved it! That is how God works...He knows every little detail of our lives right down to what color coffee maker we want and for that I am blessed. So don't overlook the little blessings and provisions that He sends us that at the time we may not even think much about. Thank God for the little things like red coffee makers. I know every morning while I am brewing my cowgirl coffee in my red coffee maker it won't be just about coffee but maybe it will be a reminder of God providing in my life. Hope you all have a very blessed week!

Vacation...One of The Best Feelings.

I love vacations and the feeling of just getting away for awhile. The packing part is stressful for me but once I hit the road I am good to go. I am headed out to Breckenridge, Colorado for the next week to go skiing...I am pumped! We stopped at The Fort Western Wear in Lincoln today to take a gander and of course I loved taking in all the cowgirl boots! So I added a few pictures for you to drool over! They had some fun ones that's for sure! Our next stopped was Cabelas...I love that store! As we walked up we saw geese in their lawn and excitedly I told my dad to look at them! He turned and was all excited...then it dawned on him that they were fake...I just started laughing because I knew all along they were! It never gets old for me to play jokes on him! Then the night ended with a beautiful sunset in Nebraska! What a pretty way to end a great day traveling! I hope you all have a blessed weekend...tomorrow I will officially be in the Mountains...which are one of my greatest loves since I was little!
